Stargazing is a significant trend in international tourism. And where better to get a good look at the night sky than the limitless bounds of Australia? Whether it’s an eclipse, shooting stars, or comets, New South Wales has the best destinations for you to marvel at the sky from the comfort of your accommodation.
Forbes Holiday Park
A luscious, verdant oasis you can find on the long road between Brisbane, Adelaide, and Melbourne, Forbes has loads to do when it’s not dark enough to look at the stars. You can view wildlife, relax with a book from the lending library, chill out in the pool, or play some giant chess. When it does get dark, why not chill out by the fire? Forbes Holiday Park also offers dog-friendly cabins, so you can bring your furry friend along on your stargazing adventure. Check out the Forbes Holiday Park.
Wilderluxe Lake Keepit
The Wilderluxe Lake Keepit is a breathtaking place to visit. The eight Wilderluxe tents combine a camping adventure with the glamorous sophistication of a boutique hotel. The plush interiors and breathtaking 180-degree water and mountain range views mean even when you’re relaxing and spending time in the tent, you can enjoy the beauty of NSW Big Sky Country.
Every tent features a large skydome that allows you to stargaze from your spacious king-size bed. The tents are also fully insulated and air-conditioned, so you can plan your trip for any time of the year.
You can also stargaze from the Gilay Lounge, a central meeting place for Wilderluxe guests that holds complimentary sunset drinks on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday evening. And of course, the Wilderluxe also has a communal fire pit where you can toast marshmallows under the night sky. The Gilay lounge also has an 80 inch wall-mounted TV, a large deck overlooking the lake with a retractable roof, and two celestial telescopes, alongside outdoor seating.
Nearby, you’ll find the Carroll Gap Farmhouse, where you can book a country meal.
Wilderluxe Lake Keepit is 40 minutes drive from Tamworth airport and 30 minutes from Gunnedah. To find out more, visit our Wilderluxe Lake Keepit page.
Broken Hill
Outback Observatory’s sky dome is the best place to have an in-depth stargazing glamping experience. Throughout the year, Outback Astronomy hosts a range of Sky Shows. They even have a calendar that shows you what to expect throughout the year. For instance, September’s new moon gives you the opportunity to spot deep-sky objects. Outback Astronomy can even let you view the sun through specialist equipment, spotting sunspots and solar flares. Just remember to bring your wired earphones to hear the audio system at the sky shows!
If you can tear yourself away from the sights of the skies, Outback Astronomy also features a commercial kitchen next to the sky dome, providing food and beverage service under the stars.
