Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary now open

Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary is now open to the public and offers a unique experience for visitors to see koalas in their natural habitat. The Sanctuary provides long term rehabilitation, preservation, and conservation to injured, sick and orphaned koalas. The initiative is by Port Stephens Council in partnership with volunteer group Port Stephens Koala.

Attractions at Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary includes:

  • Sanctuary Story Walk — a 250 metre pathway offering an immersive educational experience for all ages telling the story of koala and its habitat through artistic sculptural representations.
  • Koala Hospital — state-of-the-art Koala Hospital with Intensive Care Unit treatment rooms and holding pens.
  • Newcastle Airport SKYwalk — a 225 metre in length elevated pathway and viewing platform offering visitors to see koalas from a ‘tree top’ perspective.
  • Fat Possum Café — offering ‘grab and go’ eats and treats, barista coffees and souvenirs.
